With the regular season rapidly approaching, Coach Danny Cruz is putting his finishing touches on the roster. Jansen Wilson (Twitter/Insta) is the latest addition to the squad. The 5’11” Elizabethtown native will be playing as a wing and wingback role for Louisville City.
While playing for Elizabethtown High School, Wilson earned the 2017/2017 KY soccer Gatorade POTY honors. He spent his senior year as a part of the Columbus Crew SC academy. From 2019 to 2021, Wilson called Lexington home while playing for UK before transferring to Belmont.
“We are excited to officially welcome Jansen to the group," said coach Danny Cruz. "We have been able to evaluate him over a lengthy period of time, and he has continued to impress. Jansen's versatility, pace, and character are all attributes that made signing him an easy decision for us. This is just the beginning for him, and we are looking forward to watching his continued progression.”
"I am extremely fortunate to have been given the opportunity to play for such an amazing club and fanbase," Wilson said. "The players and staff at Louisville City are among some of the best. I can’t wait to represent the state that I’m from while wearing purple. I'm looking forward to getting started this season!"
It’s always cool to see native Kentuckians as part of the squad. Having trained with the club the past two summers, Coach Cruz and his staff have had ample time to vet his abilities, rate of growth, and character. While the timing of his signing and the resume of his teammates in the same role, I’m not expecting him to be a regular feature but the fact he was offered a contract is a vote of confidence from the team that there is no reason that he can not work his way into the mix. Coach Cruz has been very consistent over the years in his message that all players earned their contracts and that he will play the players who give them the best shot of winning. The door is certainly open for Jansen to earn minutes. Congrats, Jansen!
