Adrien Perez is the latest new acquisition for Louisville City for the 2024 campaign, following the signings of Arturo Ordoñez and Tola Showunmi. The 28-year-old will be reinforcing Morados’ attacking core with his previous experience largely on the right-hand side of the pitch.
Perez has experience in quite a few different environments. After a successful collegiate career at Loyola, he has played for the Ontario Fury (in the Major Arena Soccer League), MLS’ LAFC, DC United, and the Empire Strykers (MASL). His most recent stop was in San Diego for the Loyal’s final season, where he scored 10 goals and provided three assists (including a start against LouCity in September).
This is a particularly interesting acquisition for Louisville. Perez is prime-aged and has a good variety of experience. Although he has had injury trouble in the past (a foot injury derailed his time in DC and kept him out most of 2022), he played the 6th most minutes in the Loyal’s last season with strong numbers. This was all done almost exclusively in a 3-5-2, a formation that the boys in purple have been leveraging more and more in recent years. It seems likely that he could be featured in the starting eleven in 2024 more often than not. Let’s hope he keeps the same level of production that he had last season!
