New Signing – Tola Showunmi

Following the signing of the reigning DPOTY, Arturo Ordoñez, Louisville City has swiped yet another talent from the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Tola Showunmi (IG) (pronounced show-un-me), a 23-year-old English striker, has put pen to paper with LouCity to join the 2024 squad.

Showunmi began his career in the youth ranks of Boreham Wood and Cheshunt FC. In 2018, he began collegiate play with Merrimack for two seasons before moving on to the University of New Hampshire. With the 88th pick of the 2022 MLS Draft, he was selected by Atlanta United, but did not sign with the club. 2023 was his professional debut season with the Riverhounds, where he went on to make 28 appearances and score four goals and three assists.

The attack in 2023 was not quite up to expectations, so the acquisition of fresh blood in the mix is certainly welcomed. At 23 years old and entering his sophomore campaign, Showunmi is the type of player who will be vying to make himself a fixture of the Louisville lineup for years to come. And with the status of Cameron Lancaster still unknown, he could potentially be filling big shoes should the USL legend not return. Although his body of work is limited, he appears to have shown Coach Cruz and staff that he has the profile of someone who can provide a new look and elevate the attacking game. Eager to see how his game meshes with the squad and the team's playstyle in 2024!
