The legend is back. Cameron Lancaster rejoins Louisville City on loan from interstate rivals Lexington SC!
This will make Cam’s third stint with LouCity. After spending 2015-2018 in Louisville, he joined Nashville SC in 2019 before their jump to the MLS. He returned in 2020 and remained with the club through 2023, playing his last match in purple in the Eastern Conference Finals against Charleston. The USL legend took his talents down the road to Lexington to partake in their inaugural season in 2024 where he scored 8 goals in 17 matches in USL League One. Cam leaves LEX during their first season in the USL Championship where he has only played a little over 200 minutes.
With Sam Gleadle expected to be out for an extended period, Brian Ownby still working his way back to full fitness, and Phil Goodrum struggling to find the net, Coach Danny Cruz and staff needed a starting striker. The goals have not been flowing like they had in 2024. Between the preexisting relationships on and off the pitch and familiarity with the team’s tactical setup, there is no better fit out there for a starter ready to immediately break into the starting eleven. The club cannot afford to take on any sort of project or a player needing any sort of ramp-up period. The 32-year-old Lancaster has not scored more than 10 goals in a season since 2021, but returning to a familiar setup gives him his best shot to prove to the league that he still has it. At a minimum, the team needs him to perform until Goodrum begins to get hot or Gleadle/Ownby are ready to play and score consistently. But who doesn’t want a club legend to return and find instant success? It would be hard not to love that story! Here to hoping he can be a catalyst to propel the LouCity attack to record levels!
