New Signing - Issac Cano

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

Another Louisville City academy player is working their way into the first-team picture! Issac Cano has signed a USL Academy contract for the 2023 season. Cano, who was notably featured in the club’s piece on academy player involvement this preseason, is a forward who attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School down the road in Lexington. This preseason he had an assist against SKC and started against Colorado Springs.

Cano is the 10th player to have been awarded an Academy contract following the likes of Sebastian Sanchez, (who is currently out on loan with Union Omaha) Alex Kron, (who has committed to play for UK), and Carlos Moguel (who just signed an extension on his first team contract).

“This is another great opportunity for one of our academy players to continue through our developmental pathway,” said Coach Danny Cruz. “Issac is a player who is fearless and ready to learn every day. We have seen significant growth from him both on and off the field over the last year, which is a testament to the work that he has put in."

“I continue to be extremely proud of our pathway here at this club. The work that Mario Sanchez, Luke Spencer, and our entire academy coaching staff are doing in preparing these young players is extremely important to how we want to operate.”

“We are thrilled that Issac has earned this opportunity,” said Mario Sanchez, head of the LouCity Academy. “Over the last three years, Issac has worked hard to improve his game on and off the field. Along the way, he has implemented the advice he received from the academy staff and first team coaches. (Academy director) Luke Spencer and I are looking forward to seeing Issac continue his developmental journey this season.”

It's remarkable how many players have already earned various contracts from academy play. Coach Danny Cruz and his staff have fully embraced our young local talent and have provided them opportunities to work their way to professional play. This is a big milestone in Cano’s young career. Excited for him to continue to develop and hopefully earn some first-team minutes!
