3rd Annual VamosMorados.com Player Of The Year Poll

For the previous two seasons, a VamosMorados.com Player Of The Year has been chosen by the fans. In 2020, it was Cameron Lancaster and in 2021 it was Brian Ownby. Now, with the regular season concluded, it’s time to select the 2022 POTY. The field has been narrowed down to four players. It was incredibly challenging and there are certainly arguments for some getting snubbed. However, here are the top four whose performances have stood out the most:

Kyle Morton

Starting the list is the 2022 Golden Glove winner. He only allowed only 20 goals in at a rate of 0.74 per 90 and 53 saves during his 28 matches played. Of those 28 matches, he had 17 wins and 13 clean sheets. The goalkeeper position was one of Louisville City’s biggest needs of the offseason and it’s hard to imagine a better acquisition. Kyle’s ability to stop shots and lead from the back has been paramount to LouCity’s success this season.

When Cameron Lancaster went down injured early in the season, fans were unnerved about his absence. Wilson Harris’ play quickly assuaged those concerns. He ended the regular season with a team-high of 15 goals (0.64 per 90) off 1.6 on-target shots with three assists to boot (T-4th). While it helps to get service from many of the team’s playmakers, he forced a number of goals through his own sheer force. Wilson has been a true disciple of the press and took advantage of its offerings. Another outstanding offseason signing.

Brian Ownby

Last year’s winner is looking for a repeat win. Brian has 9 goals (T-3rd on the team and his career-best), 4 assists (3rd), and a team-high player rating (on FotMob) of 7.44. With 45 created chances (1st) and 10 big chances created (2nd), there is actually a case that he was unlucky and should have gotten more assists. He had an A-xA or -3.33 (which is just nerd for he probably should have had at least three more assists), which is the lowest of anyone in the league who had at least three assists and 10 matches played. His dynamic speed shredded defenses on the wing and he even served as striker on several occasions. It’s hard to have a POTY conversation without him in it.

Defenders don’t always get the love they deserve, but after scoring 9 goals this season (T-3rd), Sean has forced his way into the conversation. He not only scored while on PK duty but also from open play. All of this is on top of the fact he continues to be one of the league’s best center-backs and a key defensive player. His play has earned him the 4th highest FotMob player rating at 7.39. Tucked in and locked in.

There you have it! The four nominees! Like I said at the top, plenty of snubs on this loaded team, including but not limited to Amadou Dia, Tyler Gibson, Matiti Mushagalusa, and Manny Perez. As in years past, there will be a charitable portion to this, but more on that later. Step one is to determine the winner! You have from now until the end of the day on Wednesday 10/26/2022 to cast your vote below. Keep an eye on this space for the announcement on the winner and charitable component. There may be a prize up for grabs!

Who should be the VamosMorados.com player of the year?

  • Kyle Morton

  • Wilson Harris

  • Brian Ownby

  • Sean Totsch
