*Insert life, death, taxes, and LouCity in the Eastern Conference Finals joke here*. But in all seriousness, Louisville City managed to find their way to the conference finals for a NINTH straight year. In some regards, it felt like one of the least likely times. However, after a thorough pounding of Detroit City, LouCity fans were feeling pretty good heading into this trophy match. This edition of the ECF was in Charleston against the Battery who LouCity drew both home and away this season. Would Louisville’s momentum propel them into the finals or would the surging Battery continue the upward trajectory they have found themselves in this season?

Full-Time Thoughts

It was a hard-fought match but ultimately the home team prevailed. An early goal found the boys in purple chasing the game and were never really able to regain even footing with the Battery. “We pride ourselves on being difficult to break down — hard to concede goals (against),” said Sean Totsch. “To give up a goal early, our game plan goes out the window a little bit.” Goals change games and that remained true in this match. Ultimately, it was not a bad match from LouCity. They looked competitive from start to finish and they did well to limit CHS’ attack. But it was also a good summary of the season. Solid defending with a few costly mistakes and an offense that failed to fully capitalize their time on the ball. “When you look at the season as a whole, a lot of ups and a lot of downs,” said coach Danny Cruz. “I thought the group came together here at the end — certainly fought, battled, and put ourselves in a position to play for a trophy, but fell short.” City fans can be proud of the fact that this team was able to win when it mattered and earned their way back to the ECF to keep The Streak™ alive. However, the season as a whole was not as successful and as smooth as we have come to expect (more on that in my upcoming season recap). “It’ll be a busy offseason, for sure,” Coach Cruz stated after the end of his squad’s season. For now, I want to thank the players and staff for all their hard work this year and to all the fans that help make game days and just being a LouCity fan, in general, a fun experience.
