Next Match: Louisville City vs Loudoun United – 08/15/2020

With the unexpected delay of the mid-week Sporting Kansas City 2 match due to a positive COVID-19 test, Lou City's next opponent will be Loudoun United. The DC United affiliate has had a tough start to the season. They’ve had a draw and two consecutive losses to Hartford Athletic. They managed to secure their first win of the season against the Baby Bulls (NY Redbulls 2) on Wednesday 08/12/2020. A red card for NY’s Wallis Lapsley only 15’ into the match aided them in securing the 3 points. While the win may have been a bit of a confidence boost, City will have the advantage after being provided more rest time before the Saturday night encounter.

Statistically, Loudoun do not have a lot to boast about. They are 23rd in the league for shots on target, 32nd for big chances created, and 28th for goals per match. Passing and possession stats are a bit better with their team coming in 15th for accurate passes per match and average possession all the way in 4th. A player to watch on their side is Elvis Amoh who has accumulated 3 goals this season (all of which have come from the penalty spot). The Ghanaian attacker has an average match rating of 6.9.

Louisville City is 1-0-1 all-time against which includes an ugly 3-0 defeat in the first encounter. The purple fans should be going into this match confident. FiveThirtyEight is giving City a 61% chance to win. Given the fact it’s a home match up and Loudoun will only have a few days’ rest, you can’t help but be a bit optimistic. Yes, there have been issues converting shots into goals but this appears to be one of the more porous defenses that we will face. Between their two Hartford poundings and conceding a goal to a man-down Redbulls team, it’s clear they have their own problems to work through. This could be the game where it all starts to come together and the home team get a much needed win (hopefully a dominate one). They must make this match up count because it’s back to Group E action the following Wednesday. Looking forward to getting back into Lynn Family Stadium on Saturday to see this match! Vamos Morados!
