For as many highs as the 2024 Louisville City squad can boast, their early playoff exit will loom large in their minds and serve as motivation for the 2025 campaign. With the majority of the team returning, they will have an opportunity to build upon the historic success of last season. With the USL schedule released today, we now know what LouCity’s journey will be in 2025.
While the regular season is now down to just 30 matches, it will also feature play in the Jägermeister Cup where they have been paired in a group with USL League 1’s Richmond Kickers, Loudoun United, North Carolina FC, and Lexington SC who have made the move from League 1 to the Championship. A shot at another trophy is nice, however, all eyes are on the big prize; a third star.
The full schedule is below but here is what stood out to me; The season begins away at Charleston. There will not be any easing into the season with a match of that caliber. The boys in purple will make their home debut against Loudoun for the third match of the season. The first Jägermeister Cup match will take place at home against Richmond at the end of April followed by the first-ever USLC meeting with Lexington for a special Thursday match right before the Kentucky Derby. The 12th match of the year on June 11th will be the squad's shot at redemption against Rhode Island, who were the only team to beat Louisville at home last year (twice, unfortunately). On the 4th of July, LouCity gets a crack at the reigning USL Champs away to Colorado Springs. Later that month, it’s Louisville’s first trip to Lexington (for the Jägermeister Cup). Early August is the Battery’s turn to step into Lynn Family Stadium for what will surely be a decisive match in the Eastern Conference. The first Louisville Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest will not be until August 30th with the home edition occurring on October 4th.
Additional items of note include the weeks of rest. Morados sees a break in the action between the 5th (4/5 @SAC) and 6th (4/19 @TBR) matches as well as the 16th (7/4 @COS) and 17th (7/19 vs TUL) matches. On the flip side, both matches 12 (6/11 vs RI) and 15 (6/25 @LDN) are Wednesday matches. This means 6/7 vs TBR, 6/14 vs BHM, 6/20 at NC, and 6/28 vs NC (Jägermeister Cup) will be on short rest.
Regardless of the schedule makeup, there is little reason to doubt that Louisville City will be amongst the top in the East. The countdown begins to the season start on Match 8th!
